All things Comissioned.

“State of the Art Set Sail”. 36″ X 24″. Comissioned. Sold.

A large part of my business is commissioned paintings. Someone has an idea or a concept and wants me to capture it. What is challenging about this sometimes is the details left out and that’s when I get to play twenty questions  before beginning these paintings. The most helpful components of commissioned paintings are photos of the idea or concept, that way I can get a much better feel for what is wanted. Everyone has different tastes and likes and that is my job; to learn about them and capture them in art. I absolutely LOVE doing commissioned paintings and finding the purpose and meaning behind the idea/concept.  What makes people smile and what inspires people are all so interesting and unique. Occasionally I will get an idea or photo to replicate that I have to pass on and even though I don’t enjoy passing the opportunity up, sometimes I know the challenge maybe is too much for me at the time. Please email me at Amarie700@gmail.com if you are ever interested in having a commissioned piece done, my prices are reasonable and based mainly on estimated time spent and materials. I am also active on Instagram and Facebook ( Amy Kulseth or Amy Marie Art).

Old techniques revisited.

image

“State of the Art Northwoods Sunrise”. 48″ X 24″ X 1.5″. Textured palette knife with flat brush painting. Available.

As an artist I have to be open to change and trying new things. It is truly one area of my life where I deal with change the best. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and also revisiting old techniques as it is all helps me to grow as an artist. In my painting classes back in my college years we were told what techniques to use and what to paint, it wasn’t ideal but it allowed me to find out what works and what doesnt and also what I need practice and work on. I have most recently gotten back into using texture in my paintings and using palette knifes in conjunction with my brushes. In my most recent painting I added texture to the foreground which has a really neat effect and makes it almost a 3D effect.

Pianos on Parade; a great experience with purpose.

This past week I was very fortunate to be involved in a really fantastic charity event. A few weeks ago a member of the Minneapolis City council reached out to me asking if I would be interested in painting a piano. I excepted and it was a greater experience than I expected. Myself, along with about 10 other local artists met in St. Paul to paint donated pianos at the Keys 4/4 kids warehouse. My vision proposed was to paint a vibrant bright piano showcasing the lights and color of Minneapolis. I even added a blurry quick painting of Waldo in the top left for some added fun and per my dads request lol. It was fun being in company of other creative talented artists and very interesting seeing  the way others work as I have always painted alone. I met some awesome new people and hope to stay in touch and be involved in such events more often! The location of the piano will be disclosed next week and I will be sure to keep everyone posted! Thanks again for your support and love. The support from fans and collectors are what keep my dream alive and I couldn’t do it without you!

Artists and Festivals… A first for everything

As an artist I believe it’s very important to get out there and meet people as well as get exposure. While online exposure is much easier, it’s less personal. I participated in my first outdoor festival yesterday and although it wasn’t an “art” festival it was successful and a ton of fun! I  was lucky enough to have an entourage behind me compiled of great family and friends who came to help and show their love and support. The day was a cold and windy day but thanks to my handy husband, devoted dad, family and friends,  we had a secure gallery tent set up. My favorite part of the whole thing was the energy and love from the people there. I ended up selling about 20% of my inventory and getting a commissioned painting sale as well. I hope to do some more events  like this. I also will be getting out in the community next week as I was selected to paint a piano for Pianos on Parade and Keys 4/4 kids. The piano will be placed somewhere downtown Minneapolis to be played by anyone. Excited and thankful for these new opportunities.

Gone Fishing

image

“State of the Art Gone Fishing”. 36″ X 24″.

The warm weather and hot summer days are very near. I really wanted to paint something that reminded me of great memories fishing. I grew up fishing with my dad quite a bit and have many great memories. My nickname from my dad was and still is “Tadpole” because my of my little tadpole tackle box. This painting brings back memories of those great times fishing. We all can hopefully relate someway or another with these happy memories on the lake.

Painting Interrupted.

Life has a way of throwing things our way that make us take a step back and reprioritize. I use painting as a way to relax  and take a break from life’s demands and I am so grateful to have this opportunity. I have been getting more attention and orders for paintings than I would have ever expected and it’s GREAT. The one thing I am noticing is that I like to start a painting , take a short break, and then come back to it. This way I am able to get a better idea of what I want the outcome to be; especially with commissioned paintings. I currently am working on multiple commissioned paintings and I thank my clients for being patient, knowing that the final product will be greater if there is not a big rush. I am trying to get other paintings done as well as I am getting ready to hang some at a couple commercial businesses as well as setting up a tent at The Beer and Bacon Festival on May 14th. Come and have fun!

Trees, sunsets, and water.

“State of the Art Sunset.” 30″ X 15″X 1.5″. Sold.

I have been focusing my recent paintings on Minnesota scenery and nature. I have received a very positive response to the recent nature based paintings in the State of the Art series and sold both paintings within days of finishing! I am planning on painting several more nature/lakescape paintings and am going to make a couple prints of each due to the responses I have received. I am also busy working on several commissioned projects….I am blessed to be so busy doing what I love!

“State of the Art Northern Lights”

image

“State of the Art Northern Lights”. 40″X 30″ X 1.5″. Gallery wrapped canvas. Sold.

In my most recent painting I wanted to capture the beauty of northern Minnesota. When I think of northern Minnesota I think of my memories up near boundary waters and all the calm beauty of nature. The man canoeing is taking in the beautiful view of the sun setting over the trees.
