Spring is here, time to get out and interact!

For some reason during the winter months I tend to paint a lot but not get out as much to showcase my work. With a lot of projects , comission paintings, moving,  and two precious children, I was happily busy at home for the winter.  Now it’s spring and I have two events approaching quickly!

On April 1st I will be donating a painting that will be painted live at the gala event. I greatly enjoy doing live painting and letting others watch my process and see my passion for art.

On Saturday, May 13th, I will be showcasing at Stanley’s Beer and Bacon Festival. I will have many prints for sale there and a few originals. Please come, say Hi, and enjoy the great atmosphere! http://www.stanleysbarroom.com/stanleysbeerandbaconfest/tickets/

” State of the Art Life Under Ice”

As a native Minnesotan I know the winters can be brutal but they also allow for some pretty great outdoor activities, one of the favorites of many… ice fishing! Two recent ice fishing paintings have been selling very well and it makes sense… it brings people memories of happy times doing what they love to do. I love painting these feel good paintings and am excited to start a new one.

Tis the season for giving and loving.

I am very happy to say I have been extra busy with comissioned paintings that clients have ordered for Christmas gifts. I would like to take a minute just to express my gratitude and appretiation to all of you who have allowed me to be a part of your special gift!  I have completed a few portraits and have many orders  coming in of customized cabin/lake home paintings that are turning out great!

As I sit here and reflect I cannot help but to give God the biggest shout out. For without him I would have nothing. He has given me a talent and is allowing me to share it. I am so very grateful for him, family, and for all of you fans and supporters. Thank you!!! I am continuing to take custom orders for Christmas and am open to all ideas.. please message me or email (amarie700@gmail.com) me for a estimated price.

Painting from photos.

While I am continuing my state of the art and close up series; I have been working on  many commissioned projects which require me to be flexible with style and techniques as well. This is one of the most challenging yet rewarding things about commissioned work. A great deal of my commissioned works come from photos so my job is to find out what my client wants as far as style and composition.  I have included a few photos of some recent commissioned pieces and photos which inspired the pieces.

Little bit of everything.

Many people ask me one question when I tell them that I am an Artist; What do you paint? … ” A little bit of everything” seems to be the most fitting answer. With a large portion of my business being commissioned paintings, it allows me to get experience and challenges me to step out of my comfort zone… which is a must as an artist. I am very thankful to have clients that support me and have confidence in me to create a piece of art for them.

All things Comissioned.

“State of the Art Set Sail”. 36″ X 24″. Comissioned. Sold.

A large part of my business is commissioned paintings. Someone has an idea or a concept and wants me to capture it. What is challenging about this sometimes is the details left out and that’s when I get to play twenty questions  before beginning these paintings. The most helpful components of commissioned paintings are photos of the idea or concept, that way I can get a much better feel for what is wanted. Everyone has different tastes and likes and that is my job; to learn about them and capture them in art. I absolutely LOVE doing commissioned paintings and finding the purpose and meaning behind the idea/concept.  What makes people smile and what inspires people are all so interesting and unique. Occasionally I will get an idea or photo to replicate that I have to pass on and even though I don’t enjoy passing the opportunity up, sometimes I know the challenge maybe is too much for me at the time. Please email me at Amarie700@gmail.com if you are ever interested in having a commissioned piece done, my prices are reasonable and based mainly on estimated time spent and materials. I am also active on Instagram and Facebook ( Amy Kulseth or Amy Marie Art).

Old techniques revisited.

image

“State of the Art Northwoods Sunrise”. 48″ X 24″ X 1.5″. Textured palette knife with flat brush painting. Available.

As an artist I have to be open to change and trying new things. It is truly one area of my life where I deal with change the best. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and also revisiting old techniques as it is all helps me to grow as an artist. In my painting classes back in my college years we were told what techniques to use and what to paint, it wasn’t ideal but it allowed me to find out what works and what doesnt and also what I need practice and work on. I have most recently gotten back into using texture in my paintings and using palette knifes in conjunction with my brushes. In my most recent painting I added texture to the foreground which has a really neat effect and makes it almost a 3D effect.

Pianos on Parade; a great experience with purpose.

This past week I was very fortunate to be involved in a really fantastic charity event. A few weeks ago a member of the Minneapolis City council reached out to me asking if I would be interested in painting a piano. I excepted and it was a greater experience than I expected. Myself, along with about 10 other local artists met in St. Paul to paint donated pianos at the Keys 4/4 kids warehouse. My vision proposed was to paint a vibrant bright piano showcasing the lights and color of Minneapolis. I even added a blurry quick painting of Waldo in the top left for some added fun and per my dads request lol. It was fun being in company of other creative talented artists and very interesting seeing  the way others work as I have always painted alone. I met some awesome new people and hope to stay in touch and be involved in such events more often! The location of the piano will be disclosed next week and I will be sure to keep everyone posted! Thanks again for your support and love. The support from fans and collectors are what keep my dream alive and I couldn’t do it without you!
